Concept
Create a 3D flight simulator based on the Star Wars universe that accurately reflects both realistic physics and the hard numbers in the Star Wars universe.
- Physics and Flight
- Spacecraft will have no upper limit on their speed, except as dictated by relativity and fuel.
- Spacecraft will be capable of massive (3-4,000 G) accelerations[1], though practical combat speeds will be much lower[2]
- Spacecraft will travel with inertia, and thus be able to spin around and fire along different vectors than their travel vector
- Visual effects will depict RCS thrusters and thrust vectoring to make clear how thrust is working
- The "flight computer" will attempt to create an airplane-like mode of flight
- Fuel management will be a concern
- S-Foils (X-wing, B-Wing) will provide better heat dissipation (weapons, shields) and maneuverability (exposed control surfaces)
- Weapons and Shields
- Lasers will behave like actual lasers, with visibility stemming from a "sighting" beam that accompanies the actual damaging beam[3]
- Shields will behave in a volumetric fashion, with dissipation/dispersion growing stronger the closer one gets to the hull of the shielded vessel.
- For fighters, glancing hits will be survivable, while direct hits will be deadly
- Shields will function through a combination of energy dissipation (i.e. Joules/sec) and heat sink capacity (i.e. Joules).
- "Overwhelming" a target's shields will be a necessary tactic; there will be no such thing as "taking out" shields entirely; just overcoming their dissipation ability
- Capital ship shields will be all but invulnerable to starfighter weapons (exception: torpedoes/bombs/etc.)
- Will require overwhelming amounts of starfighters or capital support to bring down shields

Footnotes
- ↑ Traveling from the surface of Yavin IV, halfway around Yavin, to reach the Death Star requires accelerations at this order of magnitude
- ↑ DS1 trench run clocked in at a constant 2.3 km/s
- ↑ This diverges with behavior from the films, but matches the technical literature and film naming (i.e. laser cannons, et. al.). The visual effect will be more akin to Minbari fighters' weapons than individual energy "bolts"
- ↑ 1×16 Concussion missiles or 1×12 Proton Torpedoes
